Description: A beagle at an over-crowded rescue shelter in Alabama was sent to the gas chamber along with 17 other dogs. When the process was finished, there were 17 dead dogs, and a happy beagle standing amongst them. After the media reporting this story, he was given the name Daniel, from Daniel in the bible surviving in the fire. Daniel has now become somewhat of a celebrity, and although its sad to hear about the dogs that didn't make it, Daniel and his story has been spread through the media, touching the hearts of many people. Hopefully this will increase awareness in animal welfare. Let's discuss it. How did you feel reading it? What are your thoughts?

I think that's awful that they put dogs in a gas chamber! Surely that's cruel? I understand that some dogs just can't be rehomed but looking at Daniel that obviously wasn't the reason they were in there. He's adorable. Is that even legal? It shouldn't be. There are much more humane ways of putting dogs to sleep (if it is absolutely necessary). Although it was lovely to hear the Daniel survived, the story really upset me.

I know right? Coming from New Zealand, I didn't even realise this was practiced in the US. I felt bad all day after reading it.
